STRABAG, one of the biggest contractors of the World (ENR’s 2020 Top 250 International Contractors, 6th Place), recently ordered its 9th concrete batching plant to use in the Thiba-Dam Project, which is governmentally supported and is crucial for Kenya’s economical and infrastructural development.

STRABAG and ELKON worked together for the first time in 2013 in the hydro-electricity dam project in Albania-Permeti. From 2013 up to now, STRABAG has chosen ELKON many times.

After first Project in Albania, 4 ELKON concrete plants wer supplied to Alto Maipo Tunnel Project which is 50 km southeast of Santiago, Chile. Strabag was going to design and construct the tunnel with a total length of 46.5 km and 2 Hydroelectric Power Plants which names Alfalfal II and Las Lajas with 531 MW total installed power.

2 of these 4 units Elkomix-60 Compact Plant are Elkomix-60 Quick Master DRY Type Model which are designed and manufactured at the request of STRABAG and the other 2 models are standard Elkomix-60 Quick Master Compact Concrete Batching Plants which are equipped with 1500/1000 l. Twinshaft Mixer.

The dry mix discharge chute, which is specially designed for Elkomix-60 Quick Master Dry Type Model, can be replaced with 1500/1000 l. Twinshaft Mixer to make the plant wet type instead of dry type. With this feature our new product Elkomix-60 Quick Master Dry Type Concrete Batching Plant presents flexibility in the production of our clients.

Standard Elkomix-60 Quick Master Compact Concrete Batching Plants, which are equipped with 4x15 m³ Aggregate Storage Bins, 1500/1000 l. Elkon Twinshaft Mixer and 2 cement screw, are going to service to our client in the project that is being considered to finish within 4,5 years.

Recent project, The Thiba-Dam will provide great opportunities to contribute to the prosperity of the people of Kenya and to take the Kenya's agriculture one step further. Once the Thiba-Dam is completed, the farmers will be able to double the rice harvest, and double the current extent of fertile agricultural land. Besides, that will increase the job opportunities in the region.

The Thiba-Dam project which will be completed in 45 months, and will cost a total budget of 194-M.€. When the dam is completed, it will be 40 meters high, 1 kilometre long. So, the project also includes integration into the existing road network, the construction of water drainage systems and the safe drainage of flood waters.

In the project, Elkomix-60 Quick Master Concrete Batching Plant is equipped with 1500/1000 lt. ELKON twin shaft mixer. The aggregate bunker has 6 bins of 20 m3 each equipped with moisture probe for sand bin. Besides, the plant has 2x75 tons ELKON Bolted type Cement silos and accessories. Finally, it is equipped with a chiller unit for temperature control of concrete.

The Elkomix-60 Quick Master Compact Concrete Batching Plant is the most demanding model of ELKON , which is giving advantageous of easy installation, low foundation costs, and low cost of transportation due to award-winning design.
